Do you ever wonder why traffic signs are written in lowercase?

Following a study by a professor of typography at Central St Martins a decision was taken to use lower-case words with initial capitals instead of the all-capital practice that was most common previously. Spacing out certain letters within the signs also became a big factor for drivers visibility to see these signs from further back. Signs including “c” and “e” are kept wide apart, with the hope that writing is clearer and can be viewed from a greater distance by road users. Below is an example of this theory being used in traffic management.
